Our Grants & How to Apply

SKY makes grants of up to $150 per child per school year based on a brief application by a teacher, other school professional, social worker, or other civic leader. This page covers grant eligibility, coverage, and application:

  • Who we serve
  • What our grants cover
  • Where to apply

SKY will consider grants of more than $150 per child in rare circumstances.

“I wanted to write this to all of you to express my gratitude for the grant you gave me to cover my cap and gown…

I worked hard to get this far practically by myself. So it was really nice, you helping me when I needed it the most.”

Who is eligible for a grant?

Babies, children, and students in SKY’s three counties — Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw — are eligible to receive grant support. Students are eligible up to and including high school graduation.

SKY does not have financial or need-based criteria. We trust the educators and other recommenders to help us be good stewards of our donations.

Who can apply for a grant?

Teachers, educational staff, and other designated human services personnel are able to apply for grants on behalf of individual students. We trust our frontline partners to identify student needs, receive and spend the grant dollars, and provide receipts to SKY. Unfortunately, we do not accept applications directly from students or families.

Friendly reminder: Please use your professional guidelines regarding confidentiality when submitting a SKY grant request.
